Sinbad52 0 Report post Posted January 3, 2007 Hello, I have a variety of Malawi cichlids. Electric Yellow Labs, P Kennyi to name a few. I have had them since May of 2006 with no problems. I am trying to end an age old controversy regarding salt use on Malawi Cichlids. It is my understanding that Malawi is a fresh water lake, not brackish, and it contains mineral salts, not sodium chloride. First question: Is that true? OK, If it is true and my fish are NOT wild caught, do they really need salt as we know it, or is it more Cichlid Lake Salt that they require which is more mineral than sodium? The reason I ask is because I have had them on Cichlid Lake Salt and people are trying to get me to change to aquarium salt.. Thanks!
Matt 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2007 I would use 1 cup of Coralife salt for every 5 gallons of water.
