  1. I have tanks set up both ways , some with UGF's and some without. I am slowly doing away with the UGF's . As my cichlids get bigger they dig more and they uncover the filter plate and then it doesn't work properly. I am slowly going to all sand substrate in my tanks. If you don't already have it in I wouldn't use it .

Hey snatched if you want a place to get plains for building your own tank stand check out www.garf.org Go to the DIY section and select tank stand construction , you just put the size stand you want to build and it does all the math for you. Tells you how many and how long you need to cut each peice of wood and how to put it all together. It's a snap !!! Plus it alot cheaper !!!!! :)

  3. I used to do the temp. up temp. down thing when I first started trying the breeding thing, now I just leave my water temp. between 80 and 82 degrees and do at leased a 25% water change or a little more every week , and my fish spawn like crazy. Most of my females will start holding again in about 2 to 2.5 weeks after I stripe them of there fry. Hope this helps you out. I also run my lights between 10 to 12 hours a day.

  4. What I do is , If possible write down the date you first notice the female holding. I then wait about 14 to 17 days and remove the mother from the main tank and stripe her of the fry. You can then put her back into the main tank or put her in say a 10 gal. for a few days to let her build herself back up. The fry I house in a 10 gal. with a sponge filter until they are large enough to move to a grow out tank with earlier fry. They just don't stand much of a chance in the main tank. Good luck and hope this helps .
