Mixing So American & African

10 August 2004 - 11:31 AM

I have a question for you. I currently have a 40 gal with the following fish in it:
1 - Albino Oscar
1 - Flower Horn
1 - Peacock
1 - Severum
1 - Convict
1 - Victorian
The tank is pretty active, all fish are around 2-3 inches in length and doing quite well.

I just purchased a 120 gal tank. I plan on moving everyone from the 40 to the 120 plus I want to add around 5 Silver dollars, 1 - Algae eater and a couple of Plecos.

Should the dynamics of these fish co-habitating work out well once they mature?

What should I keep the Ph at since I have both South American & African Cichlids?

The Ph from the tap is around 7.2. I was planing on having an XP3 along with 2 Aqua Clear 300's.
The Aqua Clears are on a current established 30 gallon tank (with a 9 inch Oscar). I was going to use the gravel from the 30 (20 lbs worth) and use that to fill the egg crate I'm placing in the bottom of my 120 and putting 150 lbs of sand over that. My thinking is that between the Aqua Clears, the gravel and using the water from the 30 gallon tank that should help me jump start the 120.

How long should I wait before the fish transfer?
