I am trying to find a cichlid tattoo, or where I could download one. Another idea I had if I couldn't find that, was the symbol of fish in a african lanuage, perfer near the lakes of Malawi. Why am I looking for this...because my wife buys me a tattoo each year for Val. day and I want this.

well then...this is a real interesting question.

I too have a couple of tattoo's (couple being the loosest word in the sentance) and consider myself an expert...maybe not. Have you thought about having a Cichlid tattoo custom done. I know if I sat down with my favorite tattoo artist and gave him a pic and explained everything I wanted out of it he would custom design a piece for me...then tattoo it on me...here is an example of the work he has done on me

My Tattoo in a magazine

if he was able to create that then I am sure that an artist in your area could do the same!

Very nice Richard, I have 8 tattoo's and can't believe I didn't think about taking in a pic and custom tattoo. I went to my artist yesterday and he is going to draw up some tattoo's from a few pics when I bring them in. Trying to decide which to take in. My first and favoite is my frontosa, but I know thats not much color. I also have a tangerine tiger, rubessa, morri, fire harp, yellow lab, d.compressa, albino zebra and red zebra. Most multi color is the TT and FH. Bright color would be YL or RZ. But I keep going back to Frontosa because He is my first Cichlid and my Favoite. If I can figure out how to post his pic I will. Or if you want to see I can e-mail it to you.

Fronts are beautiful fish...not sure how well they could transfer over to a tattoo...any good artist should be able to pull something off.

If I was talking to my artist I would take him a pic of the fish, include measurements (ex. 5") and talk with him about the temperment of the fish (is it super aggressive, or passive). Nex choose some tattoo's of fish (the japanese fighting fish) where you like the attitude of them to give the artist a basic idea of how you want it to look...

I think if it takes 2 or 3 meetings with the artist before you finally get a final picture of what you want it to look like then you should be satified. You know what I am saying...

Full grown compressicepts are pretty bad ass looking with the red and blue and the big pointy bottom jaw.

Good luck

Jeff

Is that really your tattoo? Its very nice.

I don't have any myself but I am kind of annoyingly snobby about them. If you sit down with your artist of choice the two of you should be able to come up with something really cool. Everyone I know with ink has had a custom design done for them except for one of my friends who has the traditional skull and crossbones on her neck.
