#1546 all but 1 died....what is wrong?

Posted by cichlidmom8 on 23 February 2008 - 08:48 AM in Emergency Room

Hubby cycled the tank for over 48 hours to make sure it was at the right temp, he put conditioner in the water and tested the pH levels....all are fine and ready to go.

that tells you right there that he cycled it for 48 hours and that he did check the temp and the pH levels...everything was fine. the 25 gal tank was set at about 78 degrees and the 20 gal was about 76 degrees and occasionally at 78 degrees.
no the fish were not sluggish...they were eating fine, swimming and breathing fine, chasing each other like they always do, etc. nothing was out of the ordinary.

do have to say that the surviving fish did pass yesterday around 6pm

#1540 all but 1 died....what is wrong?

We had a 25 gal tank in our living room. Hubby noticed a leak in the tank a week ago and so the past week he went and bough some sealant and a new 10 gal tank. He got the 10 gal tank so we could put all our cichlids in there. We had 8 fish total. Hubby cycled the tank for over 48 hours to make sure it was at the right temp, he put conditioner in the water and tested the pH levels....all are fine and ready to go.
Well, last night, hubby put all 8 fish in the 10 gal and emptied out the 25 gal tank to find the leak to seal it so we can put the fish back in it. Well, this morning at 5:30am when hubby got ready to go to work he came in the room and woke me up and said "i killed the fish. they are all dead"....all of them but one baby that survived. I have been calling him lucky all day. we have him in a cup that is a bit small but that way he isn't in the 10 gal in case there was something in tank that did kill all of our fish we didnt want to kill this one...a neighbor of ours has 2 tanks in his home so we are going to take "lucky" over there after he gets off work in hopes he will survive until we get our leak found and fixed.
any ideas what could cause SEVEN fish to die over night?
they were swimming fine, eating fine and breathing fine before we went to bed at 10:30pm last night.

Hubby is depressed...distraught and upset over this tragic loss
