I have been treating my Oscars 2each, jack Dempsey 1, Convics 2, for two days now, I was not sure if they had ICK or not , they would swim along and then just dip down and scrape the rocks, so I came in here and read a article about some one saying the same thing of their fish, I could not see any ICK on them but the scapeing worried me, I was confused because also in my tank are 2 Bala Sharks and 2 Pink Gourami none of them did that, but no where could I find information that Cichlids will do this scraping thing and it is normal.
So what can I do once a week or so to prevent fungi or disease of any sort?
Are UV sterilizers a good prevention?
Well guess I will put carbon back in.
Any advice are behavior patterns that you may know of I will appreciate.
Thanks in advance
I chnaged my mine since I last posted and I put the Cichlid in the 75 Gal and left others in 30 Gal.
Others not in tank with Cichlid are Swordtail, Betta, Silver Dollar, Lyretail, I had Balla shark and cat fish in there also but put them with Cichlid, the Bala is a great clean up fish, I think more so then the catfish.
Can a person mix African Cichlids with South American, There sure are some pretty Africans at walmart and petsmart.
build your own stand, I build all my stands, here is a easy way to do it, if you do not have the tools to build a stand from scratch, go to Home Depot, or any store that sells finished or unfinished cabinets, buy a unfinished cabinet (OAK) now buy a piece of Oak the width of the cabinet and the length you want, they will cut it for you glue on to top of cabinet, stain it , and you have a fish stand, that will hold 30 gal for sure , the bigger the tank just add another set of cabinets.
If you have table saw and a miter saw you can build one from scratch, soon as I figure out how to upload a picture I will take pictures of the big stand I just built for my 75 gal.
I just started a new tank, 30 gal with South American Cichlids, I bought 2 oscars about 3 to 4 inches, 1 Jack Dempsey and 1 Convict, so far they seem to be getting along, I will eventually go to a bigger tank, as I learn their dislikes and what they like, I just set up my tropicals in a 75 gal tank useing a Fluval 404 canister, man I will never use any other filter but the Fluval 04 series, I am useing a 204 on my 30 gal for my cichlid, that used to be for tropicals.
I can tell you about the filter, CANISTER, I just set up a 75 gal for tropicals, and bought a Fluval 404, you could drink this water, I also use a Fluval 204 on my 30gal cichlid tank, on both know problem, on the big one I have carbon on the bottom, 2nd i have zeo-card 3rd, amonia remover and last bio max, go to petsolutions.com best price.
